We've had below normal temperatures (below freezing) the past several days... and snow! Probably 4" in all; apparently we're supposed to get another 2" overnight. The kids *LOVE* playing in the snow.
I'm trying to coordinate a community project to put up LED Christmas lights in the Golden Beola tree in the park adjacent to the community hall. It's getting there; I need to go out and locate another 5 (empty) strands as I have the lightbulbs, but no strands. I have 9 strands ready to go. The fire department has said they will place them on the tree, which is great.
Got our holiday letter copied today and re-reading it, it looks a bit like an "accomplishment" list, LMAO (if only you knew my parents, LOL)... I just laugh because the accomplishments or events of the past year are not the be-all-end-all, I know that what truly matters is the person we are developing into... are we living the values we say we hold dear? Are we cultivating compassion in our daily lives? How are our relationships, our interactions with others? How do we handle stress - are we reactive or centered during times of stress? These, to me, are the markers of... of... well, suffice to say I ought to write about this kinda stuff, the stuff that really matters in life, in the holiday letter, rather than a list of 'things that happened this year.' i'll put that on my to-do list for the new year ("let go of attachment to achievement"). ha ha ha
Have a great evening!
My adventures in living mindfully... To honour myself with raw vegan food, physical exercise and mental stimulation, with love, compassion and laughter...

SUPER Sunday!
I had such a super Sunday! So awesome, so much that I'm grateful for! *bliss* I stayed up late last night watching a movie (Orgasmic Birth, in case you were wondering, and nooooooooooo, don't read between any lines there, LOL), and woke up early (6:45 on a Sunday morning?! Boooooo hissssssss)..... It is *COLD* here right now - okay, well, put it in perspective, Pacific Northwest coast.... so around freezing feels DAMN cold! After greeting the new day, the chickens and the cats, I lay in bed snuggling with dd... I decided to phone dh, who's off at work... and we had a really sweet conversation for about an hour. What a great way to start your day! :D
The woodstove kept going all night (I was sooooo pleased) and the new Ecofan works like a charm, blowing the warm air around the living room. Very nice.
Before getting out of bed (again), it started snowing! The kids were sooooooo excited, I cannot even begin to tell you! So after breakfast they were out there, making snow angels, clearing the car to make snowballs (thanks, kids, you're awesome helpers, clearing the car of snow!), watching the dog play in the snow. So much fun. Actually, what was hilarious was watching the chickens (who I'm sure thought the sky must've been falling) *eat* the snowflakes that fell in their pen. THAT was funny. ;)
I was so productive this morning, too - I finally got around to putting the sides of the little greenhouse down (I had the plastic rolled up for summer, lol), so hopefully this will extend harvesting the kale and raspberries and parsley (yes, it's nov 21st and i'm still eating fresh raspberries)... I got the last of the christmas lights up, too. That kinda thing.
One of our neighbours has been diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer and the local volunteer firefighters were having a benefit fund afternoon event at the hall, so we dropped off a donation and headed to town. The kids went to Grammy & Grampa's for the afternoon and I went to volunteer for tai chi for a couple hours, assisting people who are currently taking various beginner classes.
Then the kidlets and I went to a homeschooling potluck. SOOOOOOO much fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the adult conversation, that the kids had tons of other kids to play with, the awesome food (I picked up salad greens, and tossed an avocado and mango with some oil & fruit vinegar dressing, and voila, ca c'est tout)...
Came home, ordered dd a Maplelea doll for the holidays (www.maplelea.com) and am enjoying the glow of the christmas lights in at the window, and the heat of the woodstove. It was -3 at 9 p.m., so not sure exactly how cold it will get overnight.
And got the raw food bulk order all together to send off in the morning. So excited to have so many people interested and in on the orders the last little while. We have 50 people on the e-list and regularly are getting at least a dozen ordering each month (and a different dozen each month, which is awesome, too). I just love putting the order together each month!
All in all, a perfectly glorious day! Hope your sunday was equally pleasant!

nothing urgent to report. seriously.
the kids've been watching more little house on the prairie lately. i admit i find almanzo wilder (dean butler) cute. ya, you heard me. :P
i did 2.5 hrs of tai chi tuesday morning and paid for it wednesday with sore glutes. LOL that, and wednesday we did a round of disc golf, so were hiking through rough terrain. to make it more challenging, i decided to take the dog on leash, too.
i'm enjoying the black mica water drops i got. are they making a huge difference in my health? well, they came at just the right time as our water system was put on a boil water advisory. the water definitely tastes cleaner with the black mica.
well, really, that's about it. i haven't been getting enough sleep lately so i'm off to rejuvenate. :D

GLORIOUS sunshine!!!!
Explain that for me: how do we go from monsoon rains one day to the most glorious, beautiful autumn sunshine - 16C today! - overnight?!? Crazy. People surfing on every possible beach around here today. ***I'M NOT COMPLAINING!!!*** Today was absolutely beautiful. The high high clouds looked like paisley swirls painted on with a feather. It was warm, sunny, just gorgeous.
I taught tai chi today. The class is doing very well and I really enjoy instructing. This term should be over in another 5 weeks.
My son went with a group of homeschoolers on a hike out west today; he had lots of fun but lamented that as the only kid there without a parent, he had to carry his own backpack full of food - all the other kids had their parent pack their snack. LOL He said the backpack felt heavier as the hike went on, not lighter, despite having eaten the food inside. ha ha ha ha I *so* know that feeling. Still, he had a great time and spent a lovely afternoon in the fresh air and sunshine.
My daughter and I played paper dolls. I'd promised her I would when we were renovating their rooms, so I owed her an afternoon of paper dolls. We sorted all the clothes patterns out and made a red skirt for them. I'm sure now that it's all set up in her room we'll be churning out lots of clothes soon. The paper dolls have a clothing store, accessory store and shoe store to shop in. Soon they will have a house (complete with wallpaper, lol) and backdrops for photo shoots. too funny. I should post pictures of Izzy & Lulu and their friends.
I've really been thinking today about my food intake and how unbalanced I am right now. I'm really struggling on so many levels. I read an article today about how the author felt the key to longevity is to eat less. I agree that for me, I am still overeating, even on raw food. I still have such emotional attachments and struggles with food. I struggle to remember that the food will still be there; I don't need to eat *all* the ________ right this second. Aaarghh. Anyways, ya, I'm really feeling like I could use a food addictions counsellor on this one.
I really need to get excited about exercising. I'm just... not. I'd love to set a goal like "triathlon" or "run a marathon" and actually do it. I'm really noticing the effects of a lack of exercise on my physical body. I'm probably being pretty harsh on myself, true, but still, I would really LIKE to be more excited about exercising, rather than it be something I dread (and procrastinate about). LOL
Enough of the pity party!!! I've got one life to live and this is IT, people!!!! :D There is no moment like this moment. Let's DO IT!!!!

november rain
that song has come on the radio every day the past week, i swear. is it guns 'n' roses? i don't even know. the funny thing is that it hasn't been raining lately... until today. buckets and BUCKETS of rain as we drove home tonight. weird, eh. (not really, it *is* november on the west coast, after all, LOL)
i have to say i am *LOVING* the vegan oil blend from Barleans. I've been taking it daily for almost a month, I guess. One thing I'm noticing is my nails are soooooo strong and growing nicely. I've *NEVER* had nails to ooh and ahh over. As a kid, I played piano and always had to keep them trimmed. And as an adult, I do too much physical labour around the homestead (chopping firewood does not go well with manicured nails) to worry about my nails. So this recent growth is rather exciting (apparently it's the primrose oil in the blend that assists nail growth). What if they get strong enough to withstand the physical labour?!? Wouldn't that be interesting?! So I'm looking online tonight to source the Barlean's cheaper than I get it at the health food store ($43 for a 16 oz bottle).
other than that, another lovely raw food order has come and gone for October.
(oops, I just remembered I have to send someone an email. NOW. hold on...)
okee dokey. got that done. PHEW. Sometimes I swear I'm like one of those people who balance spinning plates on straws... that, and being such an Aquarian I tend to be all over the place, mentally.
I read my horoscope today that said to the effect that I should use this new moon to document in detail where I want my life to go in the next 10 yrs. which was very interesting. i like doing that, and i don't honestly do it often. i just have soooooo many varied interests, it's really hard to know where they're going to take me, or more precisely, where i'm going to take them, LOL.
anyways it's late and i just wanted to say, "Hey!". I'm here, I'm doin' well. No, I'm not juicing right now. I'm going to come back to it, though, because I sure felt better while juicing. Clearer mentally, lighter physically. I'm reading Gabriel Cousens' Conscious Eating right now. At over 800 pages, it's quite the tome, but very VERY interesting and important to my growth and journey, this I know. So let's just see where this goes...
Blessings to you this glorious day!
